Binge eating disorder and depression often co-occur, but the important thing is to determine whether one is causing the other or if they are unrelated. It can be helpful to get treatment for both rather than only one, and sometimes treatment of one helps the other as well. “About half of the people who binge eat have a mood disorder such as depression,” making the need for treatment very important. Start by asking your primary care doctor about seeking a psychiatrist or dietitian.
