Procrastination is the putting off of a less pleasant task until a later time in substitution of something more enjoyable in the present. Allowing your future self to be responsible for getting unsavory tasks done in the near future.
We can’t always work under pressure to produce good work, having plenty of time and energy to place into valuable projects is important.
So why do people have such a hard time not procrastinating? Even when they know better.
- Procrastination is the modern day disease of our time We all have the constant temptation of social media to take us away from our more important tasks.
- Putting off tasks like the laundry, going to the gym or dreaded holiday shopping is appealing since we never want to do these things. Instead, shift the focus to getting smaller tasks done first then working down the list to the bigger stuff as you go.
- Plain avoidance as a quick stress relief.
- Timing is everything, sometimes we bargain with ourselves that we simply don’t have enough time to start an undesirable task.
- Anxiety that the task will never get done.
- Self confidence to get things done.
- Doubt you can accomplish the task the right way.
