In reports from the CDC, there are more deaths worldwide from suicide than fatal car crashes. So why don’t we take it seriously enough to come together as a society to offer sources of help, understanding and treatment? Still today, mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders and bipolar are associated with stigma and judgement, which often prevents people who are suffering from coming forward, admitting they need help and getting the treatment they need. An astounding statistic sheds light on the depth of the issue: “Individuals with anorexia nervosa are eight times more likely to attempt suicide than those in the general population.” Please be a light to those who need help. Know that you are never alone and there are people willing to help.
