Recovery and mental health can be difficult to describe or categorize. When are you recovered? Where is the point where one goes from in-recovery to recovered? According to Jacquelyn Ekern for Eating Disorder Hope, recovery from an eating disorder is “full restoration of physical, nutritional, psychological, and emotional health.” Often recovery begins with physical healing and blossoms into full mental health healing. Here are a few things to be aware of in recovery for teen eating disorders:
- Understand your triggers and the things that may set of your eating disorder.
- Know your support system and voice concerns with the people who you trust.
- Become involved with the recovery community and seek support from individuals who know what you are experiencing.
- Relapse is not failure and steps taken backward are not permanent!
