Everyone reacts to anger differently, some can hone their bitterness and simply listen to what is being said (or screamed, really)with respect to the others person’s feelings. While others don’t handle loud criticism as gracefully, and will yell right back. If you relate more to the latter category, then some helpful tips on how to manage your own rage when someone is expressing theirs may be good for you:
- Stay calm (as much as you can)
- Try to understand what is going on with the other person
- Let the other person rant
- Try to find the positive
- Be open to criticisms ( take them as if they were suggestions or advice)
- Make a plan in your head of what to say or do in response
- Don’t pretend to care about what the other person is saying if you genuinely don’t
- Accept what you can’t control
- Stay silent where needed
- Don’t make the other person feel they are wrong
